-
What are your qualifications?I hold a First Class Honours BA in Fashion Design from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, as well as a Business Administration degree with Major in Marketing, and about 20 years' experience in the industry.
-
How do you pronounce your name?Eliana is pronounced by saying the names Ellie and Ana together as one word. Bigio is pronounced with a soft "g", as in gin or Giorgio.
-
Where are you based?I work from my studio in Notting Hill Gate, west London, England.
-
Do you have a particular style?Like all artists, I have my individual handwriting. Yet, I'm versatile and I design for different markets and consumer styles: from niche to mainstream, sophisticated to quirky, grown-up to fun... The way I work is to look to understand the brand and its target audience well before beginning any design, that way I can design with that consumer as my muse.

What is a seamless repeat? (And do I need one?)A repeat is similar to a kitchen or bathroom tile - squares or rectangles featuring identical motifs which are laid next to each other, time after time, filling an entire surface, across width and length. The difference, however, is that in those tiles you will always see a space between them. This space is called a "seam". A seamless repeat is where these identical motifs fit time and again, without any visible gaps or spaces between them. A good seamless repeat is a well-balanced, continuous and cohesive design appearing to never end. Conversely, a non-seamless repeat will have elements broken or non-continuous, or will present gaps showing the background. As to whether you need one, it depends. If you are thinking of printing meters or rolls of fabric/paper with an allover design, then a seamless repeat is just what you need.
-
What is an allover? How is it different from a border or a placement? An allover is a layout where forms and motifs are distributed in a balanced way, filling the whole surface across length and width. A border is a design made to run only along the edge of the surface A placement is a design made to fit into a specific area - like a painting on a canvas
-
Can you do engineered placements?Yes, I can. I have a very good understanding of garment construction and I have experience working with engineered placements.
-
What is a colourway?A colourway is a design in a particular combination of colours. Some people call it a "combo". Every time one or more colours are changed, it becomes a new colourway. And because colours interact so differently, a design can look entirely different in every colourway.
-
Can you match colours?Absolutely. I usually match to Pantone Textile or Coated colour standards. If you work to your own colour standards, or you'd like colours to be matched to your manufacturers printer’s output, that’s no problem either.
-
Can you work on bespoke designs in different / multiple colourways?Sure. I love playing with colour and I'm happy to work in as many colourways as you want.
-
Can you do bi-directional and/or mirrored pattern designs?Yes, I can. I am experienced in creating one, two and even four-way perfectly seamless repeating allover designs.
-
Can your prints and patterns be used on different media / surfaces?Designs can be printed or applied onto any surface: fabric, paper, ceramics, wood, metal, glass., etc. They can also be embroidered, knitted, appliquéd, burnt-out, foil-printed, flocked, embossed.. you name it!!
-

-
Do you work with international clients?Absolutely. I've worked with clients from all over the world: Europe, North and South America, Oceania, the Middle and Far East... Wherever you are, I'll be happy to help.
-
How long does it take to develop a custom-made print or pattern design?Development times are directly related to the complexity of the design and the depth of the brief. Simple patterns, where one or two elements are arranged and repeated in a linear way (i.e. a plain stripe or polka-dot), take a few minutes. Designs with intricate details, multiple elements or layers of colour, and/or larger repeats, will naturally take longer. As soon as I receive the brief and have a better understanding of your requirements, I can give time estimates. The more specific, detailed and focused your brief, the higher the chances of getting it right first time – and the shorter the development time.
-
I have a rather small / big design project. Is that a problem? Not at all. Whether you need a complete collection or a quick one-off design, I am always happy to help.
-
Do you need a notice period?I can usually turn around easy patterns in under a day, but for more involved designs, it is always best to book time in advance. If you have a project in mind, please get in touch and we'll discuss.
-
I need a design for “yesterday”... Can you help?In most cases I can. Please contact me and we'll talk about it. You can send me a quick message by filling the form in the Contact section. I'll get back to you in no time.
-
I need to make sure the designs you create are suitable for my brand...Don't worry. I have a background in marketing and I know the importance of keeping the integrity of a brand. Before beginning the design process, I always look to understand your brand values and target consumers' drives and style(s), so that I may then design with your consumer as my "muse". Please see below a selection of samples of pattern designs created and developed to match the particular style of 3 very distinctive brands.
-
What do you need from me?A detailed brief. The more information you provide about you, your brand, and the design(s) you have in mind, the more focused my work.
-
Can I send you images of other designs? If it helps you convey what you are looking for, please do. As long as you don’t expect me to copy it, of course.
-
How is the work presented/delivered?Designs are presented at different points during the development process - starting from concepts, all the way to finals. Concepts are usually presented as an A4 sheet (jpeg) featuring a sketch or a section of the future pattern design. Once concepts are approved, we move on to creating the pattern design in full repeat. These are usually presented mocked-up onto an illustration template. Following approval of the design in repeat, we polish the design to perfection and create a final layered art. At this point we can look at additional colourways if you want. Finally, we produce production-ready arts for each colourway and send it to you. Vector designs are sent in AI or PDF format (editable in Adobe Illustrator), and pixel or bitmap designs in TIFF or PSD format (editable in Adobe Photoshop). All of the work is sent to you electronically via email or WeTransfer. I find sending work electronically to be the fastest, most efficient way. However, if you'd like the designs saved onto a CD or would prefer printed copies posted to you, that's no problem.
-
Is it possible to see how the design looks on my products?I ususally present the designs in a swatch and illustration format similar to the images below. If you would like to see it on your own garments, all you'll need to do is send me your illustrations, working drawings or diagrams and I will set them up for pattern-filling.
-
Can you fill garment / product flats with the prints?Once the pattern is in repeat, I can "pattern-fill" or “flood-fill” any garment or product that you want. I have a selection of basic shapes for most product categories, but if you prefer to see it in your own distinctive designs, all I need is for you to send me your own diagram(s) or technical drawing(s).
-
I'd like to rework a design you did for me a while ago, do you still have it?"I keep archives of everything I have ever worked on, so no matter how long ago it was, I'll still have it.
-
I have an archive pattern design I'd like to reproduce - can you do that?Provided you own the intellectual rights to the design, I’d be happy to help.
-

-
Would you have a problem signing a confidentiality agreement? Not at all.
-
